PSNC and NoviFlow team up to demo IoT over SDN for Smart Cities at TNC2016 in Prague
From June 12th to 16th at the TNC conference in Prague, the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC) together with NoviFlow and Spirent will demonstrate live how programmable SDN infrastructure can be utilized to enable the Internet-of-Things (IoT) ecosystem for use in Smart City applications.
The demonstration features an application developed by PSNC for Smart Cities / Smart Buildings that can dynamically create and manage end-to-end communication channels from IoT devices to the cloud over SDN infrastructure. The application orchestrates cloud resources and manages IoT traffic between gateways and the cloud services by leveraging the TCP/UDP payload matching and handling features of NoviWare for traffic analysis (IoT devices recognition, categorization and policies), making it possible to automatically deploy IoT services over on-demand created LXC light containers for real-time data collection, storage, visualization and analysis.
The demo network features an IoT Librium system composed of several sets of SmartCity and Ambient sensors interconnected to the Meshlium IoT gateway. A Spirent Test Center with different traffic patterns is used to emulate a metro-scale IoT ecosystem, and all these devices are interconnected to the cloud via NoviSwitch 2128 OpenFlow switches.
The demonstration shows the advantages SDN in IoT application for owners of any smart space where multiple tenants deploy their sets of smart things over a common network and cloud infrastructure. Come to booth no 3 of the exhibition area at the TNC16 conference, and get your sensors into SDN!
